Dear Summer Sister
Story
Nagisa Oshima’s fresh and youthful film made with the backdrop of the return of Okinawa to the mainland in 1972. This fine work woven with humor and irony based on a scenario about a girl who visits from the mainland to encounter peculiar characters, suggests a glimpse of the complex relationship then between the mainland and Okinawa. Long lost beautiful scenes of Okinawa are radiant as well as nostalgic, depicting a bygone era of the islands.
